Speech production under uncertainty: how do job applicants experience and communicate with an AI interviewer?

چکیده

Abstract Theories and research in human–machine communication (HMC) suggest that machines, when replacing humans as partners, change the processes outcomes of communication. With artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly used to interview evaluate job applicants, employers should consider effects AI on applicants’ psychology performance during AI-based interviews. This study examined experience speech fluency evaluated by AI. In a three-condition between-subjects experiment (N = 134), college students had an online mock under impression their would be human recruiter, system, or system with humanlike interface. Participants reported higher uncertainty lower social presence articulation rate AI-evaluation condition than human-evaluation condition. Through lowering presence, evaluation increased reduced silent pauses. Findings inform theories HMC practices automated recruitment professional training.

How do injured cells communicate with the surviving cell monolayer?

Mechanically scratching cell monolayers relieves contact inhibition and induces surviving cells near the wound edge to move and proliferate. The present work was designed to test whether surviving cells passively respond to newly available space, or whether cells are actively stimulated by signals from injured cells nearby. We monitored intracellular free Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) while scratching conflue...

Speech Enhancement using Laplacian Mixture Model under Signal Presence Uncertainty

In this paper an estimator for speech enhancement based on Laplacian Mixture Model has been proposed. The proposed method, estimates the complex DFT coefficients of clean speech from noisy speech using the MMSE  estimator, when the clean speech DFT coefficients are supposed mixture of Laplacians and the DFT coefficients of  noise are assumed zero-mean Gaussian distribution. Furthermore, the MMS...

How to communicate uncertainty in severe weather forecasts?

Communicating uncertainty to lay audiences is as challenging as indispensible if people are to understand medical test results, gains from financial investments, or weather warnings. Compared to risk communication in the medical domain, there is so far only limited evidence on how to best communicate uncertainty for continuous quantities, such as financial returns or wind speeds (Spiegelhalter ...

Effect of Interviewer Experience on Interview Pace and Interviewer Attitudes

Traditional statistical analyses of interviewer effects on survey data do not examine whether these effects change over a field period. However, the nature of the survey interview is dynamic. Interviewers’ behaviors and perceptions may evolve as they gain experience, thus potentially affecting data quality. This paper looks at how interview length and interviewer evaluations of respondents chan...

How do we communicate stereotypes? Linguistic bases and inferential consequences.

The linguistic expectancy bias is defined as the tendency to describe expectancy-consistent information at a higher level of abstraction than expectancy-inconsistent information. The communicative consequences of this bias were examined in 3 experiments. Analyses of judgments that recipients made on the basis of linguistically biased information generated by transmitters indicated that behavior...
